The purpose of this program is to protect waterways by preventing and controlling pollution:

Streets
Sweep curbed streets and city-owned parking lots following the minimum frequencies set by the MS4 Permit
Implement pollution control measures during all maintenance activities
Respond to spills in the public right-of-way
Storm drains
Inspect/clean catch basins and open channels at least annually
Inspect/clean catch basins immediately after public events
Cover and maintain trash containers to prevent overflow
Label catch basins and include proper signage on city-owned open channels
Trash TMDL/statewide Trash Provisions: Ensure trash capture devices installed are properly maintained
Prevent infiltration of sanitary sewer seepage to the storm drains through proper maintenance and inspections

Report complaints and observations of illicit discharges to the storm drain system following the reporting procedures noted in the Prohibited Discharges training.
Keep logs of inspected and cleaned catch basins, storm drain pipes, and open channels. In the log, note the:
date cleaned
amounts of trash and debris removed
need for repair of any installed trash capture device, if applicable
evidence of illicit discharges, if applicable
